Romans & Bourg de Péage, a region to discover !
Located at the crossroads of major motorways and railways, the Romans and Bourg de Péage region spreads over both sides of the River Isère, between the Alps and the Mediterranean, between the Monts du Matin that mark out the foothills of the Vercors and the verdant landscape of the hilly Drôme des Collines.
People have always enjoyed coming here, stopping here, and living here. Even now, the narrow streets, medieval houses and lively squares are still reminiscent of the traditions linked to the leather trade and the joyful hospitality of a town built upon its vocation of exchange and trade.
The Romans and Bourg de Péage region combines the attractions and services of the Town with the charm and activities of the Countryside :
An urban area...
Existence of several factory outlets encouraging shopping excursions in this urban area, that is recognised as the Capital for luxury shoes (Marques Avenue: more than 60 designer shops and the Les Halles shopping centre in Romans, Espace Mossant and the Citadelle shopping centres in Bourg de Péage).
Old part of Romans which holds a colourful market several times a week, cycle tracks along the banks of the River Isere to the heart of Bourg de Péage, friendly pebble-walled villages.
Urban services (swimming pools, media library, nurseries, hospital, public transport, general and technical secondary schools...), but also a wide variety of cultural activities (Romans Carnival, Music in the Park, Celtic Music Festival, Season of shows...).
... in the heart of the countryside
Mountain-biking tracks and footpaths criss-cross the Drôme des Collines and Monts du Matin countryside, covering a variety of landscapes: plain, hill and mountain.
The Vercors and Alpine ski resorts are less than an hour away, and in the summer, the Drôme’s rivers nearby provide places of relaxation and sporting activities.
…And a region that will satisfy food-lovers, who will enjoy the local pognes (orange-flower flavoured brioche), ravioles (tiny pasta squares stuffed with soft cheese and herbs) and fine wines from the vineyards of the neighbouring regions.
